Steve...While I can understand why anyone who lives too far to travel to Buffalo would be disappointed in not being able to attend, please know that those who will be able to attend will also be disappointed that their distant brethren can't be there.

The real message here is the kind invitation that Bob has made to all of us in the first place. To give up a precious weekend in the middle of summer in Buffalo to share his cottage with non-family members is a most generous offer.

And it's not like there's an alternative offer on the table either. It's just my opinion but I think we should give The Zootman a count on who would attend. I'm in!

I'd love to attend. My only possible hangup might be my impending move and where/when the Air Force decides to ship me. Buffalo is as good as any place. Hey, do they have any nice golf courses around there? Anybody else interested in bringing their sticks?

Cheers!

John

Golf? Absolutely! Nearby too and some very good courses within 20-25 min. Bring the clubs.

It sounds like a really fun thing, but with me living in Mississippi I think it's just a bit to far.

Guys I wish I could attend but cant get that far east this year. I do have an idea for the future. Maybe meet in Tennessee or even more ideally Colorado. Ormake it an annual event and move it from year to year from East Coast, a Central State and then West Coast. It's not perfect but if planed enough in advance I bet a larger contingent of us could attend. I think it would be great to have an annual get-together. We need to come with a way to raise funds to rent a venue if we do this. But I like the Idea. What is everyone thought on an annual OLF Conference?

This is a great idea, and I would really love to go! But.....Oregon is on the other side of the world from NY! Take lots of pictures, I will be sad not to attend.

Michael, we've talked about this before, and actually tried to do it last year.
I like the idea, something more centrally located in the US would allow more folks to come. That said, Its mighty nice of the Zootman to offer up his weekend paradise for us guys..
Lets keep this idea on the table and revisit is often.

Along with an annual OLF gathering, Rick Davis of ASIA had a few idea for some big name builders joining us for some demos too, its just in the "idea" phase, maybe Rick will give us some insight on his idea?
And we could give him some feedback.

Rick!

Cat's out of the bag, eh? It's one idea that the ASIA Board has been
discussing, and I mentioned it to Lance.

We're thinking of offering a sort of mini-Symposium that could go to
different gatherings and present a day or two of workshops, demos, and
talks. The personnel would vary (we'd draw on our Symposium
presenters and other well-known ASIA members) and the content would
be arranged with each organizer. It could be a repair tech doing a series
of demos, or an archtop builder covering the basics of carving tops and
backs, or a French polishing workshop ... There are lots of possibilities.
Cost would be kept as low as possible.

There's nothing definite but if it can be worked out, it's a way for ASIA to
support local and affliliated groups like OLF, regional lutherie
associations, etc. We have some of the best-known and most competent,
experienced luthiers in the world among our members -- if we can help
bring their knowledge and skill to a wider audience, that's a worthwhile
endeavor.

That's a cool idea. Mini-traveling-Symposiums. I like it. The NEL group would also love to sponsor such an event here in New England I'm sure.

Most thoughtful, JJ. And we will certainly miss you.

I totally agree, and Bob's generosity is not lost on me. Actually, it's quite in keeping with his generous nature. And, I hope I don't sound like I'm carping or complaining. My posts were intended to be light-hearted. I wrote Bob and told him that the whole thing seemed a bit humorous to me--that the first OLF gathering would be in Canada of all places.
And it's not like there's an alternative offer on the table either. It's just my opinion but I think we should give The Zootman a count on who would attend.
Indeed. I just wish I could go.
Any others want to rise to JJ's chalenge? (Hey Colin, what you got going in '06?)

Hey guys one thing I want to mention. You can only buy beer at a government operated Beer store in Canada. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Last time I checked prices were in the mid $30 for a case. However I might add that you are allowed to bring one case for each adult in your vehicle. So if you have a favorite beer bring some along. By the way Canadian beer is great! Love my Molson Canadian.
